SADS Safe Schools: New York
The New York City public school system is the largest in the world with the most diverse student population in the United States. In addition, New York State has the nation's largest college student population as more freshmen who leave their home states to attend college, come to New York than any other state. The SADS Foundation is dedicated to raising awareness of cardiac arrhythmias that cause sudden death in the young. Each year approximately 4,000 young people die suddenly and unexpectedly due to an undiagnosed cardiac arrhythmia. The SADS Safe Schools campaign was developed to raise awareness specifically in the school setting as children spend the most amount of time during their day in school or participating in school activities and thus is the most important place a child ever goes. This comprehensive project brings awareness to the state of New York to ensure this special population has all the right tools for success. But, we cannot do it alone!
Here's how you can help:
DISTRIBUTE SADS Safe School Kits
including new materials on CPR/AED education and coaches materials.
VOLUNTEER
to give presentations and assist school administration in educating their staff and PTA.
SHARE
your story or that of a loved one to help bring this to the attention of your local media.
JOIN THE FUN!
Come out and meet the SADS Foundation's own "Where's Bob?" Bob DeVries at the Mets vs. Cubs baseball game on September 10, 2011! (Families will meet with Bob prior to the game for a photo opportunity and then head to their special section of seats to watch the game together.)
