I really wanted to tell my son's story.. A prefectly healthy, happy 14 year old.. Until the fainting started.
I was confused, scared and had so many questions, but all the local doctor's would tell me was that my son must not of had a proper meal that day, or it must of been heat stroke(in march). I left the hospital unsatisfied! So I contacted out doctor at Sick Kids in Toronto.
After testing, Alec was dignosed with LongQT3 and Brugada syndrome. I was handed a perscription and we went home, obviously knowing that first thing the next morning I would be making arrangements for my 2 daughters and myself to be tested, which we were and thank the lord, we were all negative. Alec was diagnosed in March of 2010, In Oct. of the same year I was just about to prepare dinner when out the corner of my eye I saw my son hit the floor, 911 was called, we were airlifted to Sick kids hospital, which is where we spent 3 weeks.
Alec had open heart surgery to repair a hole, then had a ICD implanted. It was the toughest time of my life! I didnt leave his side and to this day still struggle when looking back on those 3 weeks.
BUT Alec is 15 now, since he had his ICD implanted he has not had one issue, our lives have almost gone back to where we were before. He still takes medication everyday, and I still worry every second of everyday, and that will never change.. My son has been through sooo much and he just keeps that smile on his face.. He amazes me!
Today Alec his just a normal 15 year old.. Nobody would ever know anything was wrong with him! Now, if I can just stop calling him every 2 minutes :)
