Anastasia grew up a normal healthy child. She loved dance, gymnastics, piano, basketball and most of all softball. She smiled all the time and had more friends then we even knew about. She was an A-B student. Her best friend Molly and her were inseparable most the time. A lot changed this summer of 2016. We finally took another family vacation, Anastasia was to be a freshman and made the softball team, she finally got braces on July 1, 2016 and was finally showing confidence in her appearance.
Anastasia was found passed out on the bathroom floor on 7/29/16. It looked like she was having a seizure. I helped her that night, protecting her head until it stopped, when it finally did I got her up and sat her in the recliner just in time for EMS to arrive. We thought she had a heat related illness or low blood sugar. Why not, we have never heard of LQTS. They ruled out blood pressure and blood sugar and I told them I would take her to the local emergency department for further checking. The doctor on call knew by my story that something was wrong, I saw it in his face. He ordered an EKG and reviled Prolonged QT Syndrome. Now I'm crying worried for my daughter (later after she passed I found a text to a friend about how scared she was that night and she never told me). I was to follow up with a cardiologist on the following Monday. Sadly it took 2 weeks to get an appointment. Where we live there are no specialist and when they do come to our area they dont see children. I received the call after a week but they told me it would be October before a time was available. I told them that was not good enough and finally got an earlier date of 8/11/16. I took Anastasia and her friend Molly on a 2 hour trip to see this cardiologist. While there they did an EKG (QTc of 528) and an Echo. The dr confirmed LQTS and told us not sports until genetic testing and stress test are completed, she said she could go play catch with her teammates but no running and no competitiveness. I was given a list of meds not to let her take and was told everything would be okay. No beta blockers, no monitors, no warning. We left, when shopping, ate a cheeseburger and drove home another 2 hrs. My best memory of my daughter was that afternoon after the appointment when I took her to get an outfit for the first day of school, I spent $100 in that store but we created memories. I bought a poo emoji pillow and told her that I was going to throw it at her dad and tell him "I poo on you". We laughed. We got back home and then I took her friend Molly to her softball practice (different grade) Anastasia wanted to stay and watch. The last text I got from my daughter was telling me they were done and to pick them up. That night I fell asleep in my recliner after everyone else had gone to sleep. I woke up around 3 am not sure what woke me I got up and was heading to my room. I checked the kids and noticed Anastasia was not on her bed, I walked the house and did not see her so I checked again and found her on the floor. I almost walked away but something told me to check her so I shook her trying to wake her up to get her back on her bed. She did not wake up, I screamed at her I yelled her name waking everyone in the house. I called emergency number as my husband tried to find a pulse and when he couldn't he had me step in and start CPR. I use to train people in CPR but I NEVER dreamed I would use it on my daughter. EMS arrived quickly (they were not far from us). It felt like eternity before we started going toward the hospital. I drove behind them watching all the way there as they did chest compression. Just before 5am my beautiful 14 yr old healthy daughter was gone. Just as I felt our family was coming together and we were on a path we needed to be she was taken from me. She died from complications due to Long QT Syndrome.
