Elizabeth Ann Van Kleek passed away December 7, 2014, just weeks after her 19th birthday. Originally from Hillsboro, Oregon, she was a Freshman at the University of Nevada-Reno, a school that had immediately felt like home when she had visited it while she was in high school. In her first semester of college she gained many sisters in becoming a member of the Eta Iota chapter of Delta Gamma, and shared her humor, kindness, and motherly instincts with all of her new friends. She had been diagnosed with Long QT during her senior year of High School, but approached it with her trademark positivity and hope, traits that all of those around her benefitted from.
Liz was very passionate about helping others, whether they were a friend, stranger, or somebody that didn't even know they needed help yet. No matter what, she was always there. She often volunteered at the local food bank, was the President of her high school's Interact Club, and was very passionate about finding ways to help people with mental illnesses--in particular, clinical depression. Her unique and infectious personality and spirit will be dearly missed, but those of us who have been lucky enough to experience her strength, guidance, and love, wish to honor her passion to help others and spread awareness and hope through this foundation.
