SADS Foundation :: Sudden Arrhythmia Death Syndromes Foundation

Hi everyone,

Earlier this week, my primary physician diagnosed generalized anxiety
disorder and post-traumatic stress resulting from a series of inappropriate shocks and surgical complications I had when my ICD was replaced in March. He prescribed Zoloft (50 mg.) for me to take once a day. However, I know Zoloft is on the list of drugs to avoid for
people with congenital Long QT Syndrome, as are several other similar
drugs. I pointed this out to him, but he does not feel that it would
be a risk. My doctor said the only other medication he would recommend is Effexor, but that's on the list too. He suggested I speak with my EP before we settle on anything, but I'm still waiting to hear back from him.

Does anyone have any experience with anti-anxiety medication and LQTS? What have you heard from your doctors? If my two doctors come back with differing opinions, I'm not sure where to go with this.

I am also going to see a therapist tonight who specializes in PTSD, so
hopefully that will help.

Brian, Since it is on the list don't take it. the doctor that said that it is fine is wrong and it makes me angery when they don't take LQt seriously. My doctor won't let me take anything that is on the list and wants to know before I take anything even if it isn't on the list without checking with him. good luck
