Confused and questions 1 Month, 2 Weeks ago Karma: 0
I am new to the forum and I am very confused, hoping I can get some light shed on my current situtation. I understand this isn't a clinical setting.... My daughter is 8, and she has had heart issues for several years. We first found out when she was 3 and past out on the play ground at school and broke her pinky. Then they found out she had NO superior vena cava, and three different types of tachycardia. (SVT, AVNRT, and LGL syndrome) She has now over the last several years seveloped random seziures, and migraines,.. the neurologist says that her brain is completely normal and there is no reason,... he seems to think it is cardiac related. twice in the last two years I have had to rush her to the ER due to fainting at school with a as the school put it "funny heart rate" three weeks ago, I was informed she had a "borderline prolonged QTC of 440" Her pediatrician is very very concerned. Told me to take cpr classes, get an AED, the cardiologist,..... says that it is nothing... doesn't want to see her until January unless she "passes out" again. This is the same cardiologist that told me "yeah so she has svt" she wants attention....She has been getting dizzy alot, sleeping more, and having chest pain with exrcertion. Do I look for another cardiologist 200 miles away, Do I dismiss it,... Do I go out and by a 3000.00 peice of equipment? I hear you either have LQT or you don't we have 3 people in our family that have dropped dead at 25, 37, and 49 of mysterious heart attacks. Thanks for your opinions. And God Bless everyone!

Dear Karma:

It sounds like you have really had a hard time with your daughter's health and the medical profession. Many of the conditions you list are not in SADS expertise areas so it is hard to comment on them or direct you with these. However, i would be happy to talk with you more about the fainting and "borderline" diagnosis if that would help. You can get in touch with me directly either by calling SADS or by emailing.

Take Care!

I am sorry for everything you have been through. I would ABSOLUTELY seek a secondary cardiologist opinion and I wouldn't wait on it. If you are suspecting long QT syndrome, try to find an electrophysicologist cardiologist (not sure if i spelled that right!). They specialize in the electrical systems of the heart. None of the symptoms you described should be taken "lightly". There is great information on long qt sydrome on this website. Good luck.

You absolutely go and find a new cardiologist, no one should dismiss you like that and your insurance should pay for the AED if you can get someone to write you a perscription and give you the proper diagnosis code. I will think positive thoughts for you, good luck. Remember you are your child's best and only advocate...you deserve better!
