My 11 yr. old son also had one of his leads recalled. We arranged, through the doctor, for CareLink to send us a monitor to be used at home to watch more closely if he had a problem. We transmitted to the hospital (by holding a mouse over his device) 6 weeks following every 3 month appointment with the doctor. So he was monitored by the doctor or device every 6 weeks. His first transmission detected a fracture in December 07. On 12/24/07 everything was replaced-his ICD and both leads. He is doing well and now we have a CareLink monitor that checks him while he sleeps every 6 weeks, but we can still also transmit the way we did in the past. Doctors believe his age & activity level contributed to his fracture. He did recover quicker with the second surgery but it was a crushing blow for all of us since it had only been 16 months since the original implant. My suggestion is to get a monitor if you're concerned so you can be watched more closely.

i have never had a problem with my leads yet but i also have the carelink which i can do from home and send it to my cardiologist...it was a little scary when i found out that there was leads recalled when i first heard it on the news but when i confrounted my cardiologist about it he didn't seem worried all that much cuz he's never had any problems with leads in other pacients...but just to make sure he had changed a setting on my ICD to alert me b4 shocking me if something did go wrong with a lead...
