Long QT and sports 4 Months ago Karma: 0
Hello- My name is Erica and I am a Long QT pt with a pacemaker and three very energetic boys to keep me busy. My two oldest sons are on beta-blockers for the Long QT, but the condition has not been detected in my youngest. Until recently sports haven't been an issue with us due to lack of interest from my sons. However, my 15 year old has now decided that he wants to play baseball. He was advised to get a pinch runner, but has made it clear that he would really prefer to run the bases on his own. I unfortunately do not own an AED due to my insurance's unwillingness to fork over a little assistance, and I am very uncomfortable with him playing sports without having one at the field. I was wondering what anyone else's experience has been with this dilemma. At the same time that I don't want to crush his hopes of playing I also don't want to put his life in danger either. Any input would be much appreciated.........I hope you are all having a fabulous summer!!!

Hi Erica, you may want to check out some of the responses on this thread: http://www.sads.org/index.php/Medical-Questions/50-Playing-limited-sports.html

They may not address baseball specifically but the discussion is all about long QT kids playing sports.
