The SADS Foundation receives many telephone calls and e-mails requesting information on how to find a qualified and knowledgeable doctor. We understand that it is still difficult in many locales and circumstances to find physicians who are familiar with the emerging and rapidly growing body of knowledge regarding the genetic causes of arrhythmias, inlcuding LQTS. Here are two suggestions: Our Physician Referral service: We maintain a list of physicians in the USA, and some other countries, who currently treat LQTS patients or are experts in the electrical system of the heart. We have both adult and pediatric cardiologists on our list. The list does not encompass all cities, but the list is growing rapidly and we can often recommend a physician in your geographic area who is prepared to evaluate patients with symptoms suggesting LQTS or other genetic arrhythmia. Please call 1-800-stop sad (786-7723) and tell us your situation and concerns, and we will see if we can recommend someone in your area. Alternatively, consult an adult or pediatric cardiac electrophysiologist (an expert in the electricity and rhythm of the heart) in your area. Most major medical centers and many cardiology groups have cardiac electrophysiologists. Don't hesitate to ask them how much experience they have had with LQTS. If you need help finding a qualified physician in your area:
Finally, if you still have any questions or doubts, get a second opinion. Contact the Foundation for more information and support with your diagnosis. |
