After
three awesome years leading the Climb to Conquer SADS, Rich Bennett will be
moving on. We want to thank Rich from the bottom of our hearts for doing such
a great job-- we couldn't have done it without him! Especially this year, his
efforts meant more than we can say. The fact that we got so many of the
climbers on the summit, and everyone got down the mountain safely, I think we
can all say THANK YOU, RICH, FOR A JOB WELL DONE!!!
Rich's skill and dedication to our cause
have made a big impact at SADS, and we will miss his leadership in the years
to come. Rich and his team weathered a major mountain storm in the first year
of the Climb to Conquer SADS, bringing the team down safely to the sun and
warmth of the lower elevations after two nights of near-blizzard conditions
higher on the mountain. In last year's Climb, Rich led several climbers to
the summit in outstanding weather conditions. In this year's Climb, with
an uncertain forecast, Rich and his team braved the higher slopes of the
mountain earlier than anticipated to beat another mountain storm in a race
to the summit that saw several members of the team get to the top! But
whether the climbers made it to the summit of Mt. Rainier
or not, they reached the summit of our cause.
Rich did a lot of work to get the job done these
last 3 years, both before and during the climb. Thank you again, Rich, for
your dedication and support. You have inspired greatness in us all!
Although we are sorry to
see Rich step down, we are thrilled to announce our 2010 Climb leader; Brian
Hoots. Brian is willing to take up the torch, and try to fill the
very big boots that Rich has filled with talent and grace these past 3 years.
Brian is committing to lead Climb to Conquer SADS 2010! Brian is a
skilled and experienced climber, a great leader, and a wonderful person. As a
computer networking professional who has done a lot of work in medical
information technology, Brian has some experience working with medical
professionals. Moreover, Brian has been an enthusiastic volunteer for
many years working with diabetes camps. And last but not least, Brian has
been a dedicated climber in our climb all three years!
