Update from BrugadaDrugs.org
Update from BrugadaDrugs.org
2/23/2012
The following drug have been associated with arrhythmias and the typical (type-1) Brugada syndrome ECG. Therefore the
BrugadaDrugs.org Advisory Board
strongly advices to avoid thes following drug in Brugada syndrome patients or to use these drugs only after extensive consideration and/or in controlled conditions.
The drug
procaine
(an analgesic) has been added to the list of drugs to
avoid
for patients diagnosed with Brugada Syndrome. Please be aware that procaine may be added to other drugs such as antibiotics for intramuscular injection (to mitigate the pain following the injection). We advice you to be watchful when receiving antibiotic injections. Still, antibiotics may be very important for Brugada patients in the occurence of a bacterial infection which causes fever, as some patiente may have a fever sensitive form of Brugada syndrome.
Please know that, as every patient is unique, not all the listed drugs will be harmful for every Brugada syndrome patient, and that some drugs may be beneficial for other reasons. However, we advice great caution and close monitoring when any of these drugs are administered. For detailed information on the drugs, refer to
BrugadaDrugs.org
.
This drug is also very commonly used by dentists for tooth fillings and other minor surgeries, be sure to check with your physician before any dental procedures.
For more information, please visit the
BrugadaDrugs.org
website. If you have any questions, please contact the SADS Foundation at
