I was diagnosed with LQTS when I was eleven, after my 3 year old brother, Sammy, died suddenly. My other brother, Jimmy, and I were eventually tested by a cardiologist friend and subsequently put on beta blockers. Fortunately, neither I nor my brother has ever had any symptoms, but my life has definitely changed since the diagnosis.
I used to play soccer competitively as well as swim, but had to quit both of those activities. I have found plenty of ways to keep in shape and have fun though! In high school I was the Assistant Coach of my cross country team, meaning that I ran practices and traveled to the meets but did not race. Instead, I timed them as they passed the second mile marker and then met them at the finish. I still got all of the benefits of being on the team without any of the risks of competing.
My diagnosis had also encouraged me to find ways to help others. I did an internship with another the American Heart Association, where I had to opportunity to come into contact with other young adults with LQTS for the first time. It was so awesome to get to talk to someone who has had similar experiences and I am excited to have to opportunity to share my experience with you!
My cell phone number is (404) 502 7085, and my email address is This e-mail address is being protected from spam bots, you need JavaScript enabled to view it if you ever want to talk please just let me know!
