Volunteer to Fight SADS!
|
Volunteer: Shauna Hatch
How does a SADS condition impact you? Please tell us about your own personal experience or how it has impacted someone you are close to.
Two of my daughters of Long QT and implanted cardioverter defibrillators. My husband and I are also diagnosed by genotyping with Long QT although we are not getting treated for it.
Why do you volunteer for the SADS Foundation?
I want to spread awareness of LQT amongst the medical community and general population. I hope for better treatments for it and someday a cure!
Please tell us a little about what kind of volunteer activities you do for the SADS Foundation. (i.e. participation in SADS awareness campaigns, responding to advocacy action alerts, attending/organizing SADS events in your community, etc.)
Over the years I have written letters to doctors who missed the condition but commented on symptoms. I sent information about LQT to them. I have done class presentations at my daughters' school and dance class. I have done fundraising for SADS.
What is your favorite part about volunteering for the SADS Foundation?
The hope that the information will help someone and the hope that getting the word out there will encourage research, better treatment, and a cure!
Do you have any advice or final thoughts for others who might be interested in getting more involved with the SADS Foundation?
If we all do a little it'll add up to be big!
