Brugada Syndrome
What are the symptoms of Brugada Syndrome?
Cardiac arrest & fainting due to a ST polymorphic ventricular tachycardia pattern, seizures, unexplained nighttime urination, strange breathing
What tests are used to diagnose Brugada Syndrome?
A diagnosis of Brugada syndrome is made with an abnormal resting ECG, ECG during fever, ECG with drug studies, and genetic testing. Genetic testing is positive in 40% of patients.
Brugada Syndrome Treatment
Treatment options are few. At present if a person has a definitive diagnosis and symptoms, an ICD is recommended. An ICD is not the answer for every patient. Some research suggests that quinidine may help some patients. Patients should also avoid drugs which block the sodium channels in the heart.
