As most of you know, people with ICDs are restricted from most sports. However, we haven't really determined which, if any, sports would actually be safe for people with ICDs.
A recent survey of Heart rhythm cardiologists suggests that some individuals with ICD's do participate in vigorous and even competitive sports, despite these guidelines. The ICD Sports Registry is currently enrolling individuals, ages 10-60, who have made the decision to participate in competitive sports at any level in the hope of obtaining information about the relative safety and/or risks of sports participation for ICD patients.
If you have an ICD and are participating in any sport--we need your help with this study. Please contact the SADS Foundation at sads@sads.org or call 800-STOP SAD (800-786-7723) if you are interested in this registry.
